Yay! Today was the first fully sunny day that we've seen on our trip so far. It was invigorating to see the sun and feel it pouring in through our windows. I want to start with some random thoughts and occurrences. Today we rode in a pimped out taxi that had a nitrous kit...nice...too bad he didn't use it. At McDonald's you have to pay extra for ketchup and sauces for nuggets. At grocery stores you have to pay for a bag to take your items home in. You also have to put your backpack into a little locker b/c theft in stores is a big problem. It gets dark here at about 4:00 pm which is very odd...it starts getting dark around 3:30. Our translator said that the longest day of the year in summer has light until 11:00 pm. Wow!
Tonight (Wednesday) our translator is going back to Kiev to take care of some personal business. She gave us hand-written notes that we can show to people to communicate how to get places and order things. We are of course at the mercy of the honesty of people when it comes to that. We know reasonably well the way to get from our apartment to the orphanage and whatnot, so we'll probably be okay. We used a note today to get our two computers at the internet cafe right now. We have addresses for the orphanage and our apartment and we now know how to ask for water "without gas" since they typically drink carbonated water (Emma calls this the yucky water). We'll get along alright while Natalyia is gone b/c we can't go see Cole for two days anyway. He has a cold and it seems to have moved to his chest and his cough is rattling. They asked us not to come so he can get better. It pains us to accept this b/c: 1) we want to see him and don't want to take steps backward, and 2) we already feel like his parents and feel like we can care for him and want to just take him with us.
So, for the next few days we'll be hanging out on our own with no Cole and no Natalyia. We'll walk up to the store and over to the internet cafe and possibly venture out to the indoor playground which is just like chucky cheese. We're reading books and coloring and whatnot. Lori might do more laundry in our bathtub which I've take pictures and video of for the benefit of all of you loyal readers. :-)
We often think of all of you and wonder what's happening back home. We typically do the math to figure out what time it is for you guys and it's odd to think that we're going about our day long before most of you are awake. I'll sign off of this now and let Lori do her commenting. We love you...

I've been enjoying your updates immensely! I can just picture Lori washing clothes in the tub! :) It's probably good that you get a couple days just to hang out and rest, but I know you'll miss little Cole. Tell Emma that Micah misses her at Journey--although things are definitely much calmer in the play room! We're praying for a speedy process and safety for you all. Lots of love,

Smile...you feel like Cole's parents!!! That sounds so nice. Guess what, in God's eyes you are. There are technical flaws in the way at this point to let you fulfill the whole act of parenting! We love your news and look forward to it and look for it to be on the blog several times throughout the day. Libby's first question when she arrives home from school is, "Any news from Trevor and Lori?" If I say yes, she says, "Don't tell me!" and runs to the computer to read it herself. She seems connected to how Emma is fairing. It is the common bond of the big sister! Sun is good for the soul, so I hope it stays there for a while! And, what is the thing the cab driver had in his pimped out car????!!!
It's no wonder Cole has a cold with all the layers he's been wearing!
You haven't mentioned the temperature you've been having-just wonder if it's as cold as you expected.
Take advantage of your time to relax.
As Christmas approaches it'll strange not having you here. We'll definitely be thinking of you all and our prayers are always with you. love mom and dad W.

I'm so glad it is sunny for you guys! Sorry about Cole's cold. THose are never fun! WE always figure out whote time it is for you guys to! Have fun doing the laundry in the bathtub! That sounds AWESOME!!! HAHA! We will pray for Cole to get better!
Yay for sunny days... its wonderful to hear that you already feel like Cole's parents- you really are. We understand the date/time thing here to. I keep getting mixed up what date things happen for you because it isn't the same date... but i get confused with just one time zone too!
Emma-I've never been a big sister but it sounds like you are doing a great job! I miss you! i can't wait untill you come home!
Lori & Trevor-You are wonderful parents (just look at emma). I pray that you can be the parents to Cole that you really are, and that God will take care of the rest.

YAY for sunshine and pimped out taxis. Just think of the savings you could have cashed in on if he had used the nitrous (time could have been cut in half). As for the extra sauce, I hear that is going to be a McDonalds trend here too (I hope not, I love extra BBQ sauce w/ my McNuggets). Good thing you can ask for the non-gas water (that was the biggest thing in Poland as well). Best wishes with the notes and getting around!! You will do great!! :-)

"Home" - your house is still standing, the Jeep is still in the driveway, and grass has not needed cut (I love the winter). ;-)
Weather - weird for December, but that is NW Ohio.
Company - we are looking forward to your return home (both kids in tow)!!!
We keep reading the posts, look forward to the next post, and pray in between. You guys are going to have a lot of awesome memories of this trip - take lots of pics. We look forward to seeing ALL of them!!

One word for this downtime: sleep! You guys deserve a rest after all of the high energy, high emotion prep for the journey and your first week there. Enjoy the sun, enjoy the slow days, and make sure you bring the "notes" home for your scrapbook. Cole will get a kick out of seeing those when he's older. Love you lots.
